Home to the U.S. ski team, it’s no surprise that Park City is one of the U.S.’s most popular ski towns. Park City hit every snow sport enthusiast’s radar when it hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. At an elevation of 6,900 feet, three distinct ski areas offer world-class skiing terrain with deep powdery snow carpeting vertiginous slopes that provide excellent skiing terrain for absolute beginners, hard core backcountry zealots, and everyone in between. And then there’s ease of use, Park City is located just 30 miles east of Salt Lake City International Airport. What Park City also offers is a diversity of experience that is hard to find in many ski towns. During the summer, a bounty of outdoor pursuits include horseback riding, bobsledding, ski-jumping, hiking, mountain biking, fishing. Despite the influx of gilded tourists, the former 19th-century silver mining town clings to its historic aura. Main Street is awash with arty cafés, contemporary galleries, performing arts venues, modish nightspots, chi chi boutiques, and sophisticated restaurants. For two weeks in January, Indy filmmakers, actors, celebrities, and movie buffs descend upon the town for the Sundance Film Festival.
